HAYWOOD COUNTY MEALS ON WHEELS

ADVANCING THE COMMON GOOD

Meals on Wheels mission is to provide a hot nutritious meal consisting of 1/3 the recommended daily dietary allowance once per day to prevent malnutrition or the need for institutionalization to those individuals who are unable to prepare a nutritious meal for themselves due to age or disability without regard to income, race or gender. As an example of the services provided, please read the following story:

An 86 year woman was released from the hospital after surgery and recovery.  She came home to an empty home without friends or family nearby. She did have concerned neighbors who checked on her when they could. After a call from the hospital social worker, Meals on Wheels arranged meal delivery five days per week. Now, she is on the road to recovery. She receives a daily nutritious lunchtime meal and, she even has made a few friends with the volunteers along the way. Thanks to the monies received from United Way, the program is able to continue to assist seniors in need in Haywood County.
