SNAP Benefits Assistance

Haywood Health and Human Services wants to make sure residents are informed about recent changes to Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) benefits, also known as food stamps.

On October 27th, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced the November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be delayed if the federal government shutdown continues.
 

October benefits: Families will continue to have full access to their October 2025 FNS benefits.

November benefits: The November benefits have been delayed and will be issued once the federal government gives approval to do so.

WIC benefits: The North Carolina Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is operational and remains open for business.

 

NCDHHS and Haywood Health and Human Services are doing everything they can to reduce the impact on residents.

For anyone in need of additional assistance, Haywood County Health & Human Services offers a Food Resource Guide that lists local food pantries and community meal programs. The guide is updated monthly and is available both at the agency and online. You can also call 2-1-1 to be connected with resources. You can also visit the NCDHHS website dedicated to food access to find a food pantry closest to you.

NCDHHS is providing the following guidance for people who depend on food and nutrition benefits:

  • Continue to Apply and Renew: All residents should continue to apply for SNAP benefits and submit renewal paperwork on time.
  • Check Your Balance: Any benefits currently on your EBT card are still available to use. Check your balance on the ebtEDGE app, at ebtEDGE.com, or by calling the number on the back of your card (1-888-622-7328).

 

Haywood County will continue working closely with NCDHHS and USDA and will share updates with residents as soon as more information becomes available.
